Hello My O is 8 inch now and now has a habbit of bitting me while i am droping pellets and it allwas make my finger bleed having a few small scratches. it is cool him having a very sharp teet but its painful is it normal or is it also happning to you when you feed them. is it good bad or normal help here pls

i cant help it some of my friends dont get to eat so oscar eats everything up before it reachges them like dust is left behind so i have to soak a few pellete first then crush it so it sinks to the bottom. like the feeding rule in fish is what it can eat in 2 mins but everything is gone how many time you put

Try spreading the food all over the tank when feeding to give the other fish a chance to get some. And instead of soaking the pellets try buying the sinking pellets

The biting is totally normal, but still scares me from time to time, when you least expect it.
my Tiger bit me last feeding.
it happened when i was waiting for the Gar with a fish in my right hand, but i wss leaning on the tank,with a pellet in my left hand...
Hope, the tiger, jumped 4 inches high to get the pellet that was in my left hand!!!
and had my adrenalin going allright.

but the interesting part is, i get bitten when my o's miss the food i have in my hand.
if anyone else will put their fingers near the surface, they will get attacked in a different way, that looks more like aggressive territorial defence.
nowadays i have to move my oscars by hand to get them out of the way of my gar's mouth, when I'm handfeeding the gar.
But my oscars don't mind being turned around and moved about gently, they won't bite me ,as long as my hand is submerged in the water.

here's one of mine, as a baby, and allready biting me,accidentally, that was.

now im scared every time i am feeding them tank cover open... like it hurs for a day

only thing i can think of is putting your dishwashing gloves on
that will help stop the bitting but make sure yu have a seperate
pair that hasnt been used in sink =]

How gentle was that Noddy!!! If I put my hand in with food it's a free for all guerilla attack...the O's over there must have better manners than these uncouth Aussie fish!! When I do the water changes on the babies I use a hose and syphon it out but I hold my hand over the end so that I can keep a net on the nozzle. The little tackers all have a go at the bubbles on my hand and they already hurt! What is that old saying about biting the hand that feeds you...guess that does not apply to Oscars!....Shaz

i used to scrub the glass wall by hand...however, with the recent spawning,
i had to put the scrub at the end of a meter long pvc pipe... i am still
at shock whenever bitten by the over protective pair...
