Hey! My 9 inch Oscar keeps shaking his tail up and down like a quick vibration especially when he thinks it's feeding time! Anyone know why they do this??? It's cute!

I believe that tail shaking is a form of communication. Some people think it may be a sign of aggression. I'm not so sure about this because I often observe my Oscars often rubbing each other seductively and tail shaking when they do it.

Interesting, my albino does it all the time, but my red oscar has never done it. Makes me wonder. (S)he only does it when the facing opposite the red oscar and they are rubbing on one another.

I think depending on the circumstances it can either a territorial/dominance thing or a 'mating' issue--like a 'hey, check me out' kinda thing. I used to see my 2 oscars do it alot, mainly while right next to each other...it never seemed aggressive, more like a display.

I don't think in my oscars case he's interested in mating with one of the three albinos who are way smaller than him (can that work if they wanted to or do they have to be same age/sexual maturity?) he's always kept out of their way with a bit of a different temperament! (Assuming he is a male... I'll never know)

I love some of these suggestions as to why they're doing it though, I guess it will be a mystery! rather like how they open their mouths really wide randomly.. though i think it's to make themselves appear bigger!

That's seriously cute! I never thought of it like that! Mine just appear to do it randomly or if they've decided they don't like each other for ten minutes or so lol
