For some strange reason that I suppose only an Oscar could tell us, they do like sitting around on the bottom of the tank quite often. I often observe my Oscars doing it. Just make sure your water conditions are okay. If everything is shipshape and Bristol fashion and I really don't think you got anything to worry about, you just got a pair of lazy Oscars.
May do this, go to the tank, they should be aware that you are there and swim to the front of the tank.

If the fish was to just sit on the bottom of the tank breathing heavily, this could be a cause for concern, so be very observant

welcome to ofl.com

new oscars sulk and sit on the bottom untill they get use 2 their surroundings also oscars that have been in a tank for a while might start sulking if u have moved anything around in the tank or sumtimes after a water cahnge.

funny fish they r very clever and like to keep us in suspense
DONT BUY ON IMPULSE DO SUM HOMEWORK FIRST

Thanks folkes,
Sounds like that could be the issue as ive just transfered my fish to a larger tank and they do seem quite active when they see me with a pot of food. lol. And if i remember rightly they did the same when they whent into there old tank. Thank you for putting my mind at rest.

James.

Hi,
I am new here. I just purchased 2 Oscars. At first they kept playing dead. After awhile they started coming out for food every time they saw me. Then a strange thing happened. I was sitting in front of the tank putting together a tank Vaccum when they went absolutely bonkers. The Vaccum is battery operated but I never put the batteries in. The end where the batteries go is shinny silver. I believe when they saw the shinny sliver end they flipped out. They swam a supper speed and bashed into the sides of the tank. At first I did not know what caused it. After they calmed down I picked up the shinny silver end of the vaccum to continue putting it together and they went bonkers again. I put the vaccum away but now every time someone walks by the tank they hide. My question is will they eventually come out of hiding or did I frighten them for good? Also, why should they be afraid if shinny silver?

Oscars r unpredictable, u will never understand them, u can't say what they will be afraid of? once i put a small plastic diver in the tank, it was red in color and my Tiger was totally freaked out! so i removed it, but he is very playfull most of the time.
it is better not to make any sudden movement in front of the tank, approach the tank slowly or they may get scared and injure themselves.
Once they get used to u, they will come out and play with u.
