Our oscar is around a year and a half; and we just got her/him cuz a friend had to move and couldnt take her. She got stressed cuz of the move, and then got over it. We finally got her use to seein us for a change. But about a week ago we adjusted the lighting in the tank. Yeah, I know that can stress them out but its been a week and she went from color change to slucking on the floor. Not even moving or eating. How long is too long? What could it be and any suggestions on making her feel better than she looks?
Ok so first off to figure out if everything's cool with the tank--
Give us some info:
Tank is cycled right?
What were your last water test readings?
Tank size? Filtration?
Just the oscar or are there more fish?
What water conditioner do you use and current temperature?
Anyways, with the light...it's hard to say what to do, you could try limiting the amount of hours it's on: If there is some natural lighting in the room during the day you could try and only turn it on for 3-4 hours or so in the early evening, and I would give some shelter for the oscar to take refuge in like a cave if there isn't one in there. Short of getting dimmer lights that's pretty much it--bear in mind oscars can in some cases take
weeks to get truly acclimated to a new environment and this type of behavior is certainly not uncommon. So if that's the only issue I wouldn't worry too much about it--the main thing is to make sure everything is ok with the water.
