Hey guys seems my Oscar is now going through his picky eater phase. How do I go about combating this? He gets a wide variety of foods but now he has decided that he does not like the pellets I give him and some of the other foods I give him he chews and then just spits out making a mess of things. Do I not feed him for a day or two or should I keep feeding him some of the other foods or will that be a mistake?

You weren't doing anything else anyway…

Is this an adult Oscar? Like us adults, adult Oscars do not need lots of food, you can easily feed Oscars every other day, or even leave it longer if you want, the fish will not come to any harm. If I was you, I would stop feeding all together for about three days and then see how the Oscar reacts when you put some food in that it has been rejecting.

Nope still far from being an adult about 15cm (5.9 inches) at the moment, since its still relatively young would you recommend not giving him food for a day or two?

Okay, try a full 24 hours without any food going into the tank. Approach the tank as if you are going to feed, but don't.
