I feed my Oscars freeze dried Blood Worms every few days...

I place the small frozen cube into an empty spring water bottle as we always have some emptys sitting near the sink to be taken out to the recycling bins.

I dip it into the tank to add some water, then I set it on my desk to defrost for a bit.

So far, this has worked out just fine..

Until today that is...

Today while sitting and working here at my desk (admiring my nearby fish once in a while) I reached over to take a swig from my water bottle...

I had it to my lips...

I almost did....

Then I remembered, I had the wrong bottle in my hand...

That was close...

Too close for comfort!

I always drink water and always have bottles around me...

I need to find a different container to defrost my worms.....

True story.....

A bit of extra protein won't hurt

I also feed my Ossie's frozen bloodworm from time to time - did not realise they prefer it unfrozen - they take it from my hand and gulp it with much joy - afterwards they'll clean up the few strings of worms that got left behind. Will the cold food do them any harm?

I would avoid feeding them anything that has a great temperature differential to the water they are in. It just makes good sense. In the wild no one would be feeding them a hot dinner or a frozen treat. Those worms are only frozen to preserve them from spoiling. It sounds like you are crushing the cube and hand feeding and maybe they aren't getting too much of a shock. But this has got to be the equivelent of a human biting off half an ice cube and swallowing it down. Brrrrrr......
