hi i just joined forum today so hope this is the right section for my question
i have to oscars recently one of them laid eggs so i know one of them is defo female for the first day everything seemed fine on the second day my other oscar decided the female was going to have nothing to do with the eggs and decided to protect them him self presuming he is male not sure well i had to take ozzy out in the end as he was bashing bino the female one around the tank and hurting her we then took the eggs out as they where not fertilized after giving bino a few days to recover we put ozzy back in with her they had a bit of a fight to start with then seemed to start settling down apart from the odd jaw locking but then after a couple of days ozzy decided to start on bino again we didnt want to take ozzy out again and stress any of them so we have put a divider in the tank so they can still see each other and ozzy charges at it to get to bino how long should i do this for and does any one think they maybe a chance when taking the divider out they could get along again at some point i dont want to have to let one of them go at all but if there is no way round this i dont want to end up with a dead fish on my hands through fighting thats not fair on the fish any advice would be grateful thank you

Welcome to our community. Unfortunately, keeping fish together like this is very unnatural, they cannot get away from each other so sometimes aggression does break out. The best advice I can give you is to monitor the situation, see how they get on together, if it is fairly obvious that there is going to be ongoing problems then you may have to re-home one of them. I'm afraid there's no definitive answer on how you can get Oscars to get along together, they either do, or they don't.

Leave them sparated for a couple of weeks then put the aggressor into the other side. If they get on remove the divider, if they dont consider another tank or rehoming

this sounds just like my two at the moment; they were the best of mates i have had them for 2years and suddenly 1 is sulking and now i dont think they like each other at all. i have put barrier up but i am really considering seperating permantly because i do not think they can stay together anymore. I hope you can get yours to be friends again.

i have been told by niki sue that the naughty net works
and it is working for me just put the aggressor in a net in tank
leave him for an hour then put back in when he starts buullying do again and he will soon relise
it is working for me =]

thank you for that last comment that is well worth giving it a go took divider out today so far lots of tail shaking and nudging but that is all so lets hope they settle if not the net thing will give it a go
