As you may know, I have been wondering for quite some time if I would get another fish for my 240.
Today, I walked into the LFS, and it was decided for me. They had a gold colored tiger oscar, with the most beautiful markings I had ever seen.
I bought him. I don't know how rare he is, I don't know if gold is common, but I got this one. It almost looks like a cross between a lemon oscar and a wild oscar.
I put him in my tank, and the flowerhorn because showing me what I knew could happen, and what I was warned would happen. This little oscar is 5", smaller than the flowerhorn, and he went right to bullying it.
I setup a quick tank to move the flowehorn, and it is now on its own. I am not sure yet how I will keep it alive. It is a brand new tank, with a brand new filter. I am considering selling her, or letting someone adopt her, or taking her to a near by LFS. Someone on this board told me in private "I would trade a flowerhorn for an oscar any day." I disagreed, until I saw this guy today.
This oscar is getting along with everyone else in the tank. It looks like I will have an oscar, clownloach + 1 blood parrot tank.
With 240 gallons, I may get a true red tiger oscar, and have 4 different oscars.
your right... very cool colors and marking on your Oscar! Your Oscar is still very young and may still change colors and markings patterns as it matures. But I hope it keeps its unique pattern.
sorry to hear about your Flowerhorn. Honestly I was suprised is didn't show its truly colors before this point. Flowerhorns are very resilient fish and do okay in tanks that are a little on the smaller side. (as long as the water conditions are okay). Just make sure to put some of the benificial bacteria from the cycled tank in the FH tank. It should be cycled in no time. Remember to do a few extra waterhanges to the new tank until cycled.
I hope you keep the FH, that is a very nice looking fish with lots of personality... and the personality will be more focused on you (the human), since it will be by itself in the tank.
This was the emergency tank I popped the blue girl into when she started fighting with my new oscar. It is a 30 long tank. Kinda short. I have a 90 gallon that will be freed up as soon as the 120 is moved into the 240. They will live in the 90 eventually.
