Ok I have three 6-7 month old oscar that are getting pretty big. I feed them pellets - meal worms - krill - crickets - night crawlers. The water quality is superb with 25-50% changes bi-weekly. My water is constant 77.6 degrees F. Well heres my question, I turn the aquarium lights off at night and when I wake up in the morning all my oscars are still asleep but sometimes 1, 2, or all 3 will be floating at the top. I had some other babies do this but these 3 just started. the first night I thought they were dead but I turned on the tank light and they went insane banging into all of my aquariums walls. Now I am use to it but I just don't want there to be an underlying condition. When they are awake the swim perfectly no problems at all. Is this common with oscars? Is there anything I can do to stop this or should I even try? Thanks !!! - Jon

nah dont worry bout it, oscars do that occasionally some do it all the time. the only thing that sucks is u always get that worried feeling that u may have lost a fish.

This is normal for oscars, some will do it

Try opening your curtains for a couple of hours before turning the light on, this way they will be awake by the time you turn your lights on so they wont get shocked by the light coming on

You only need lights to see your fish, they will be fine with natural light lighting the tank. Algae also needs light to grow so the longer you have the lights on the more algae you will get. Have your lights on for about 6 hours when you are home (for most people this will be in the evening)

Put you light on a timer so you wont need to worry about turning you lights on and off. I would recommend they come on at 4pm and go off at 10pm
I can't get no sleep
