TOPIC: DANGER!!! Fighting baby oscar

DANGER!!! Fighting baby oscar 4 years ago #13084

Recently I got a new 65 gallon aquarium from a few friends. It has 1 Blood Parrot, 2 silver dollars, 2 Bala Sharks, 2 Blue Gourmis(i think thats how u spell it) and they all came with the tank. I let them sit for about 3 weeks and get used to me and there tank. I then today got a baby oscar wanting to have fun hand feeding it and seeing its personality. Within an hour it started nipping at everything except the Blood parrot which kinda scared the little guy when they met. Now i am wondering if the nipping is caused by the stress of moving, hunger, or anything else:angry:. If you have any ideas please tell me before all the fish get killed!!! I will Keep you posted on what happens from here.

Also the nipping is like a lunge nip. Almost like he spins around on anyone who comes too close and then RAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!!! He bites......

as long as there is no damage being done to your other fish i would worry to much about it however i would keep an eye on the situation to make sure it doesnt get any worse. he might just be trying to set up the pecking order in the tank.

as for your set up bala's grow rather large up to 10" and a parrot also gets large and thick and as you probalby know an oscar can get large too. i think you might be a little overstocked if you keep all these fish for there expected life span.

personnally i would rehome a few of the fish and keep the oscar and maybe the balas.

good luck with your new set up
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

Thanks, He has stopped nipping. I know the tank is overstocked but i have heard that putting oscars in a large tank by themselves could scare them so i will be moving him to a 125 gallon tank when he gets about 5 inches.
