As we all know Fish food isnt cheap.

Wheres the cheapest place to get fish foods such as pellets for you guys?

what about live food?

In regards to hikari ciclid gold pellets is it WISE to buy in bulk.. say 1kg? How long can the food last for and whats the best conditions it should be kept in?

Most dry fish food has a good shelflife. Just close the packet when you've finished feeding the fish, store it in a dry place and this will keep everything fresh and stop it going off. There are a couple of fish shops in my area, I tend to use both of them. I buy virtually all of my fish food locally. I don't buy in bulk unless it's frozen stuff like blood worm

well i allways thought fish food lasted for ever lol..you learn something new every day

A good way to save money is to alternate between cichlid pellets and koi pellets. Pond fish food is a lot cheaper than cichlid pellets. Feeding oscar just pond pellets is not a good idea so that is why alternating is a good idea

but i want the colour coat to be really nice. would alternating still be ok?

do you have a feeding routine delboy? im not sure about bloodworms etc.. pretty pricey

if you buy blood worm they do last a long time..just give half a block twise a week. i do iand they are lasting a long time..

your oscar will love them to so surely thats worth spending a little extra

oh they come in blocks? how much is one block approx

frozen stuff genarelly comes in a packet of blocks. i thing there are around 24 blocks per pack depending on what make you buy...

Varying the diet is the best thing. I feed maggots on and mon and tues, defrosted prawns on a weds, pond pellets on thurs, cichlid pellets on fri, pond pellets on sat and peas on a sunday, at the right time of year when i can get worms i feed them these too

Bloodworms is ok for small fish, however when oscars get big i think it is expensive and also you will end up with lots of bloodworm around the tank, so unless you have some fish to clear these up (like clown loach) then i would steer clear of them

ohhh yeh taht sounds like a good diet.

I was gonna feed my oscar solely on ciclid gold and then once a week a live food.. cos i wanted to increase its colour coating.

i feed my oscars cichlid gold pellets,live worms,live grass hoppers,frozen bloodworm,tetra doromin pellets and every now and then i will buy other live foods..they are looking great and healthy and are very lively
