TOPIC: Ants as food

Ants as food 5 years ago #1454

How about ants and other little insects you can find in the yard, can the Oscars snack on them?

That's a good question. I've never thought of that and haven't read anywhere about ants being used for food either..

My instinct would be of concern though as some ants have stinging bites and may have some type of venom or poison? I don't know...
If you try it out, let us know....

Need to give away one healthy 1 year old Oscar if you know of anyone interested. See the adoption thread for photos. Thanks!

Ya Know, I was thinking the same thing as far as ants being potentionaly harmful to the Fish so I don't think i'll be experimenting on Pinky & Brain. I think i'll just introduce them to worms and such

I have fed ants to my 4 month old, and had no negative effects. It did not last long enough to bite Ozzy. Like feeder fish I would only do it in moderation. I would, however, avoid the red fire ants.
