My Oscar is about 6 inches long now. I like to vary his diet with worms from the store. ALso i get live worms from the yard and some insects i can get a hold of. Can i feed him live lizards? Has anyone done this before? Thnaks n advance.

what type of lizards are you wanting to feed your oscar?

i would not recomend feeding it lizards. as far as i know the fat from the lizard will build up in your oscar and shorten its life..

is not the sort of thing I would feed to an Oscar. It is an issue with saturated fat, however, I'm not entirely sure how much saturated fat reptiles contain. At the end of the day, lizards eat flies and other horrible little creatures so it's probably better to leave them be. An Oscar isn't going to swallow a lizard in one go, the lizard will probably have a pretty horrible slow drawn out death which really isn't necessary when there are so many feeds available which are much better for your Oscar. I don't believe in gratuitous animal cruelty which feeding lizards to fish blatantly is.

Hi
I don't think that's a good idea to feed to a oscar. Don't think it's humaine and it would not digest right in there stomachs.
There's plenty of other live things you could feed your oscar if you prefer to feed live foods.
I normally buy crickets at the lfs and they just love them...

Hi
I normally get some earth worms from my yard for the o's.
In the summer I normally have japanese beetles on my trees so I just get a bag and put them in there for the o's as well. They really like the bugs.

Normally i find earthworms and some other ones too. Occasionally i find a nice juicy bug to give him. Yesterday i found a beetle that he seemed to love. So are most insects ok to feed him or should i be weary of certain ones?

Hi
Yeah the o's love those juicy worms.LOL
I do know some people that give spiders to there oscars. I have never tried it but they said the o's liked them.
I would think you could give them just about any type of bug since that's what there diet mostly consist of in the wild.

I don't like to feed my oscar stuff from the yard, because of the pestisides people use in thier yards, that could potentially kill your fish. I recomend store bought pellets, freeze dried krill and such. And of course the fruit that Amy mentioned in another post, organicly grown of course. If you are going to feed your fish live feeders, get a small tank and breed your own, store bought sometimes have deseases.

Most insects are ok to feed to oscars in England, however you should be careful in other countries and some of the bugs may be poisonous. Earth worms are great and oscars love them, but as said not if you use pesticides in your garden
