TOPIC: feeding with small mice

I have two oscars weighing about 1.2 kg each (test weight through bucket with water), 17 months old. They laid egg twice, the most recent was August 22, 2008. Is it normal that my oscar eats all their eggs after two days? Is the presence of two hammer head sharks had an impact with the eating?

I will try to move out the rock bed if ever they spawn again.

I used to feed my two oscars with small mice that i usually caught in my trap. Perhaps, it helps them grow faster.

First of all, don't feed mice to Oscars, saturated fat is not good for fish. Also, I doubt very much whether an Oscar could eat the size of mouse you are talking about, it will be far too big.

Now what's this all about hammerhead sharks?

Hi
Sorry that's a little to extreme for me to feed a oscar. I could not do it.
I feed mine pellets, worms, crickets, krill, shrimp, beetles, peas, bananas, etc..
There's other things that you could feed your oscar besides that , that are better for them.

HI
Yes oscars can eat fruits and veggies. I also give mine some strawberries and blueberries. It's very good for them b/c they have Vitamin C.
Glad to hear your oscar loved the bananas. LOL It's very good for them to.

For an oscar weighing 1.2 Kg more or less., any small mice is just one-snapped food for them. The mice I am talking to is about 1 to 1.5 in. long (body length)that used to run at the kitchen counter or inside the cabinet. Perhaps, you will wonder how I've got the weight? Put water in a bucket, weight it, then put the oscar on it and weight it again, whatever is the difference, that is the weight of the oscar.

The hammer head sharks I mention are co-habitat of my oscar. one black, one albino, approximately 14 inches long each. I will try to attached picture for your viewing.

Thats a great idea, I just tried the banana and Brain loves it never thoguht of that before. Brain eats pellets, fresh shimp from the fish market, freeze dried krill, and on holidays she gets a couple of feeder minows. the fruit is gonna be a nice addition to her diet. Thanks

Oscars are designed to eat small insects and the occasional fish (you can tell from the fact that they are not torpedo shaped that are not natural fish eaters)

If you feed you oscars mammals regularly then your oscar will end up with health problems and die. Oscars cant process the fats in mammals properly and these fats cause them to have kidney problems that eventually cause death
