TOPIC: Can an Oscar Choke??

Can an Oscar Choke?? 5 years ago #1546

Brain is so greedy its pathetic. I just feed them(3 half inch cichlid sticks and 1 freeze dried krill) well Brain will take about 4 or 5 pieces of the cichlid sticks in his mouth then he'll get a piece of the krill with his lips(if you can call Those what a fish has lips)and swim around with the krill poking out of his lips. So my question is can he choke? Do I need to start feeding him more so he's maybe not so famished? I already feed him 3 times a day, Pinky eats maybe twice.

Are you properly prepared to "dive in" ang give mouth to mouth if he does choke????????

I've seen my Oscar take so much food at once it goes in his mouth and slides out his gills...

P.S. He's not famished, he's being gluttonous!

Ok I kind of figured that. Yeah Brain is the same way he'll get a bunch of food in his mouth, then get a piece of krill in his lips and swim around puffin food out his gills its a sight. I'll try to get a pic next time he does it, which will be tommorrow morning:silly:

As has already been said, Oscars are very greedy. Babies are particularly greedy and will cram as much as they possibly can into their mouth. If you are worried about it, feed them one pellets at a time. My intent to retreat to the bottom of the tank until they have swallowed what they've got. Occasionally they will even try and get more in their mouths. That is why we love them
