Well i just purchased 2 oscars yesterday. Ive tried feeding them, but they simply wont eat, how long does it take them to eat Are they not used to their envirement yet? can some one please tell me whats wrong.

oscar are known for there ability to sulk. this can happen when they are introduced into a new tank, if you cahnge the decor of there existing tank or even for no apparent reason. it can last for up to a week tho in my experience after a day or two and they'll be out and about beggin for food at every opportunety. if you want you can try and leave the tank lights off to help them get used to there new home

necromancer4 is wright. mine sulked but after 2-3 days they will start acting like they have never been fed:)

Well, i do have "oscar fish food". Do you think that i should just buy a couple gold fish and put them in there, and then go from there. Im just worried.

i found if you give them a treat like live food they will sulk for longer and might get adicted to live food. then it would take a few weeks to get them eating pellets again.

just persevere and things will be fine:)

i never feed feeders to my oscars. they are low in nutritional value and can carry diseases. if you what to feed live food to your o's try crickets, mealworms or earthworms. these all have a high nutitional value and are safer for your fish.

Feeder fish are great and they carry enough nutrition to make then worth feeding to your oscars. The ones from larger chain stores may carry diseases that can be transferred to your oscar. So it's best to raise the feeders yourself if you can. Live crickets are great also and they don't carry many diseases if any at all.

I think you have been mislead. feeders are like neromancer says of little nutrition to your oscars. and goldfish as most people use are the worst. any person wishing to feed, feeder fish I would recommend that you first feed your feeder with pellets. after your feeders have eaten the pellets then feed to your oscar. this makes little sence to me but its the best way to get full nutrition into your oscars. why would you go through so much trouble when you could just give the pellet??? oscars would eat a very wide range of foods in the wild, fish would make up a very small part of that diet. worms,maggot,mealworm,beatles,larva,etc would be the bigger part of the diet.
