oscars will feed at all leaves of the water, it will take anything on offer. Maybe something is putting them off?? powerful lights,or yourself looking in also have a look to see if there is a film over sureface. This could be wast from high protien foods and may tant tast. i have a air stone but have removed it a few times only to find a oily film on sureface. you could try turning lights out and see but i dont think there will be a problem and they will soon get use to taking food from sureface.

i always have to drag my oscars attention towards food that hes missed. Mine sometimes just wiggles around with excitement looking at me when the foods already bin dropped in above him. I tend to move away from the tank after i drop food in so he focuses less on me and starts looking around. I also wiggle my fingers near the tank to get his attention and drag it towards the food.

Dunno if this helps, but mine too can be pretty oblivious when something else has got his attention.

Hi minisnell: welcome to oscarfishlover.

How many Oscars you keep? What size are your Oscars? What tank size/volume do you keep them in? What are your water parameters (Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates). Are there any tankmates with them?

If they are pairing-off -and sometimes they rehearse this behavior without getting eggs at all- they usually go off food for a few days! Have they cleaned some spots? (e.g. flat rocks or expose the tank's bottom glass).

Or they may be sulk (go figure why) and will get back to business as usual any moment now... it's hard to tell sometimes.
