Hi etwee:

Just add a few pellets, -count them- and leave the area where the tank is alone -if you can "peek" without being noticed do it or come back in 30 minutes or so and check if your Oscar has eaten at all. If not, give more time before removing uneaten food. When stressed or just sulk -go figure why- Oscars behave like that; most of the times it's nothing to worry about.

When my female Oscar was still making herself at home she would not eat and spent a lot of time laying down, tilted in 30 degrees. I was really worried, but I turned the lights out, left some bloodworms in gel -irresistible for her, and in a matter of two or three minutes after I left that room she would go for it all.

It took the male Oscar some time (as I recall it like 2 weeks) to actually eat in my presence. Today both eat gently from my hand -when feeling like it- or they grab the food in a sudden, rude movement -as "hunting" food- and splash me all over if I'm not careful!

Hope your Oscar goes OK soon.

Thanks for ur reply pep.

I dont think its him not actually wanting to eat. He takes a pellet, and spits it back out.

if you are concerned about your not eating for a few days try him on something different. maybe a some bloodworms or krill and see if he eats that. however you reallys should go back to pellets until he starts to eat them.

also make sure that the pellets are not too big for him to chew
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my oscar has now not eaten pellets for about 4 days and i have only given him a little blood worm and hole muscles to see if he does want to eat, and he does want to but he is just being a spoilt brat lol. oscars can go over a week easy with no food.

remember these fish are pigs and are like little children. they will eat when there hungry. if they know they can get you to give them a treat then they will. you have to be stubern yourself now and tell him NO lol:)

This may not be the best answer ... but does your O have any tank mates?

I currently have yet to experience this problem.

Though reading through the posts and reading the articles on the main page, this is not an unusual occurrence, and depending on size and age they can go for days if not weeks without eating.

The reason I ask is because my scenario. I have my now 6" Red O with a male Jack Dempsey and maybe because I haven't had this problem is that, even though they're peaceful with each other, they do compete (gently I must add) for food. Which is the reason why I believe that I haven't experienced this ... yet.

You may want to try adding liquid vitamin to his pellets ... possibly with some type of garlic extract to entice feeding.

As long as your water parameters are in the green. I would mark this up as just normal O stubborn behavior.

The only other thing I can think of is ... does your O's stomach seem bloated? Maybe it's constipated. If so try some shelled blanched peas.
