hi, my oscar fell asleep with his head resting on my heater last night and this morning he seem to have a mark on the side of his head, is this a burn?

looks as if its could be a burn. it will heal very quickly dont worry. you could add a heater guard to provent in future as a large oscar could brake a heater without a guard. my clowns used to do this all the time, they slept on the heater. What is the temp in your tank?? I dont think its a prob but just covering it incase.

my tank is allways at 79f or 26c. i have a spare heater that is designed to go inside the filter in the tank(my tank is one of those juwel bow fronts and comes with a built in filter) so i might be better off changing them over. my current heater is 300w and the other is only 200w.

dont see any problems. i took a look at your photos of tank when you posted them. internal filters are not the best looking but as long as it works ok, its all down to the owners choice.your setup seems fine for your oscar. and the temp is same as mine.)) one of my oscars has just got a small lump on its lower lip from rubbing its face on glass. it looks horrible but i know it will go in time.))

ive heard alot about oscars getting lumps on there lips.

if i could rip out the internal i would lol but its glued on tight, i think the fluvel 405 does all the work really, the internal one just seems to get any crap off of the surface of the water more than anything else.

2 fluvel 405 filters would be pretty good i think:)..

im currently trying to convinse the misses that a 6x2x2 tank would be alot better but she isnt so keen:(, im gonna keep trying though:)

I have the same problems. I have a 6x2x2 but now want a 12ftx4x2 ebay £800. but she says NO way. ebay prices are very cheap for a 6x2x2. I have seen tank alone for less than £300. brand new,10mm pilkinton glass too. a large tank dose take up a lot of room so see there point.I saw a 12ftx10x4 for £2500 and thought wooo, I have a garage but dont want my fish too end up there as no one will see them. i even tried to tell her its a swimming pool. lol didnt work.)

having 12 ft tank! WOW! That is bigger than my bathtub. With that size, I can have 15 kilograms of carp in 120 days.... that will give me good food and extra income. Just kidding but its true.

Regarding the lumps at the lower jaw of oscar.... I believe it is natural for them to have it... because that lumps grows every time they are about to spawn, using their jaw in moving everything around. It will eventually thinning down after spawning.
