they do look quite bright. However, I couldn't say for sure whether they have been dyed. Have you asked the fish store? if they are indeed dyed, they will probably lose their color as time goes by. If you've been on this website for a period of time, you will know our feelings about artificially dyed fish. It is a cruel barbaric practice that need stamping out completely.

I also believe that your oscars are dyed to have such a bright red color.

I want to take this opportunity to suggest the premitive way of curing such a massive sickness of fresh water fish (sorry folk to contradict the scientific process). Kindly apply rock salt in your aquarium 50 grams of salt for every 10 gallons size of tank to let the sick fish produce body slime naturally. The body slime will protect the fish from further deterioration of infection. The new slime will shield the fish from bacterial infection and will heal the damage on the skin due to dying.

I am not sure but that is what we do when I was working with a 48 hectares fish pond. We used to dissolve tons of rocksalt whenever we found we have sick fishes in the pond.

You should ask the fish store under what name did they order those Oscars? most businesses know the people who supply them with fish very well. If these are dyed, they must have known about it.

very good tip Paul, not something I knew anyway

I may be wrong but I don't think they are dyed. I owned one for a while and it wasn't that red but I know for a fact my LFS i bought from takes a strong stance against dyeing fish.
Thats him next to my lemon. I actually gave them to a friend with a 125 gallon.

Remember that parrot cichlids are very vibrant in colour, they are not dyed. It is possible to breed fish that are extremely bright in colour.

Okey, there is possibility that your oscars are not artificially colored (dyed). What I forgot is to asked if the eyes are red because those are another indication that your fishes are really special (unusual breed)

Do not try anymore anything that will harm him. As long as they are active and healthy, so be it. Sorry if every body push the alarm button. Better to act with concern than to do nothing at all.

Sorry as I have lost track.I did go back to the LFS n inquire
whether the fish has been dyed or chemically treated, the answer was NO.
I do admit I took the best looking pair as the rest are red but the
color extend only up to part of the gill plate. The fish do not look stress
n has good appetite n even compete for food better than the tank mates.

I found it under the tank n dead.
Why did it jump out? I am daze. The other one is still
rushing for food n greets me when I go close the tank.
