Cheers

50 (us gal) is a little on the small side but doable if there are no other fish in the tank. A 75 would be much better. The tank in the link looks like it might be the wrong shape for an O tank. A long tank rather than a tall tank would be more desirable.

Cheers, yeah it's going to be on it's own. I've inherited a 2" Oscar and am looking to buy it a tank of it's own as my current tank is only 65l so I don't want it to be unhappy. This tank I've found would fit the space i can offer and has a great filter with it so I hoped I'd get this answer

Thanks again.

You'll be ok as long as you keep up with water changes. But as I said in my first post a 75 would be better.

the only problem with this type of tank is the lack of swimming room for the oscar. the tank measure out to be about 2'x2' and unfortumetly that really isnt long enough for your oscar to move around in. it would probably be better for a community tank of tetras or something. even though your oscar is only 2" long now it wont take long for him to 10" in lengh and then he really wont be able to move.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

That tank looks neat, just not for big size fish like Oscar.

The volume of water is fair, but the footprint of the tank is just too small.

You need at least a 4 footer (48" long) tank, hopefully 24" wide ( although 18" wide may not be ideal, it might be OK your fish ).

Expect about 1" growth per month.

with those feedback, i believe the guys have you covered.
i just want to add that fishes tend to swim horizontally,
the longer your tank, the better.
