Hi, new to the site, already got some useful information about my next tank and now I'm curious to know something else. My Oscar is a juvenile and I've noticed that many dfferent colour varieties are available, and that colour changing can occur at around the 4" stage. I don't think I've seen an adult Oscar with this particular colouration, so I wondered if anybody can predict how the fish will look at a later stage, just out of curiosity.

Here is the pic:

Thanks for any help

welcome to the site.

honestly, no one could ever tell what color their
oscar would be. when i got mine, i was told that they
were red oscar. however, as they grew up, they become
as black & white oscar as you can see in my avatar. there
are so many factors affecting their color:
breeding
water parameter
foods and vitamins
environment

i am not good in oscar specie identification but i will
call your oscar zebra oscar. it looks like a zebra,
isn't it?

oscar colour and marking change with age and no one can definetly tell how they will turn out as adults. when i got my red oscar i picked him cause he was almost black in colour now almost a year later he is very red with little black left on him. only will tell what your oscar will look like when mature so you should take pics of him every month to document his growth and colour change
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

As the others have said, its impossable to tell the only sure thing is it will grow. It will be nice if you came in 6 months and post another pic though so we can see. )))

Thanks for the help, it's just I've seen several juveniles which look similar to this but adults I have no idea. I guess it's a waiting game! I will certainly post pics as he grows

Well, he's already getting a bit bigger and this colouration is changing slightly - dark bits are going more green, and the light bits are getting more orangey. He ate out of my hand for the first time yesterday!

I'm gonna throw out my two cents and guess tiger oscar. Looks like there will be some red in it, but you can never tell at that age.

If it turns out to be a zebra, you'll have to tell me where you got it.
75 gallon - 1 albino tiger, 1 blue acara, 3 pictus catfish, 3 silver dollars & 1 candy-stripe pleco.

20 gallon - planted tank.
