In my local Maidenhead Aquatics, they have for sale two Map Oscars. I have kept and bred Oscar's for ten years or more now and I have never heard of Map Oscars before. Can anybody shed any light for me please, I have tried Google and that's not helped. Are they just more coloured up (not dyed)Tiger's or am I on the wrong track completely ? These Map Oscars were priced up at £20 each and are the same size as Red's priced up at £7.00 each.

i as well have never heard of a map oscar. my first impression would be a painted or dyed o. if you have a chance to get a pic of them it would give a better idea what it could be.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

map oscar or map flowerhorn, i believe, are just creation
of local fish stores to creat good fortune for them. just
imagine if a certain kind of color pattern of any oscar or
flowerhorn could create demand. that will give them good
fortune.

that craze happen in our local fish shop wherein a certain
buyer poseuer tried to look for a map oscar or map flowerhorn.
allegedely, it gives good luck to whoever own it and it command
good price. after three weeks, the shop had the said map flowerhorn
costing exhoberant price. when such specie was sold, we found out
that there are a lot of same color pattern and the buyer poseuer is
in cohorts with the lfs just to create demand and sell their merchandise
at good price.

basically, all good color pattern of red tiger oscar can be inetrpreted
as map and can be called map oscar. if you take at look the pigmentation
of an oscar scales, they look like a pattern of land and ocean in a globe map.

Thanks Paul, These did look nice, but I honestly can say that they didn't look anything other than nicely marked Tigers. Your explanation fits perfectly and I think that a lot of unsuspecting hobbiests could be fooled by the name. I just wouldn't buy something I'd never heard of without much researching first. necromancer4 if I get down there before they are sold, I will take a picture of them. They are not dyed you can tell, but neither are they worth anymore than other Oscars of a similar size.

but i would like to share this myth, that whenever you
have something alive and running inside your house, you
will be BLESSED and have GOOD LUCK. the concept behind
this is that whenever someone enter your house, your aquarium
will absorb all negative vibrations, and will create a unified,
parallel mind setting, a cosmic vibration that will lead every
one in harmony irregardless of any differences in life.

people will pay £8000 for a large red Arowana. Cos Chinese,Japanese people think it represents the dragon. If I wanted a dragon I would go for an iguana, not a fish but if you are convinced it will bring good luck so be it.

I've never heard a map oscar either. Obviously that doesn't mean they don't exist, I've just never come across them and I've never seen literature referring to this type of Oscar.

If you go into the wilds, you have slightly different variations of the wild Oscar, however they are virtually all the same fish. Anything different in captivity has been interbred. I suppose anyone could call something they've bred that looks slightly different to the norm anything they want.

basically, yes. whenever someone has/have aquarium/s in their house,
people believe it is good luck. and the one having it/them is/are easy
to deal with and can get along well with anybody.

my psycologist daughter explain to me the logic.... we... oscar enthiusiast
or any other fishkeeping hobbyist has that mind setting to care and the heart that can love unconditionally. "what can we get in loving our fish?" nothing! but we love them anyway. that is where the good luck lies.... the softness and tenderness in our heart, capable of loving unconditionally bring us luck.

she further told me that aquarium keeping is the most effective therapy for those soldiers who had been in war and had the war shock syndrome. i am not sure but she make sense to me.

no need to remove BGM,...we will just stop further discussion about the belief on oscar map or flowerhorn, but in some otherway, this is related to that insight. from hereon, we will just react if "map oscar or flowerhorn really exist".
