As far as the grasshopper goes, how often can they have this. I assume in the wild they take what they can get and their diet is varied. I'm guessing 2-3 times a week as well as everythin else, 2-3 time a week just keep it on a rotating menu. If this is not the case let me know.
I have 2 other tanks as well. 1 is a 30gal. and I have a few goldfish in there, also another 55 that is set up brackish. I have some mollies, pleco, and a spotted green puffer in it. The mollies occasionally have babies. Can I turn these over to the Oscar in the other tank?
I was also thinking about turning my 30 gallon into a feeder breeding tank. What would be the best thing to grow for the oscar? Can you grow multiple species for feeding? I'd really like to keep the feeders homegrown.
Thanks for your time.

Grasshoppers are a great source of nutrients and yes, they will eat similar stuff in the wild during the rainy season. It wouldn't hurt to drop a couple in everyday as well as a few pellets if you really wanted to.

i feed large locust about three times a week ..2 each..they are about 3"long so the equivelent mass in grasshopers would be 3 hoppers to one locust total 6 locust 3" a week per fish ...besides river shrimp and their staple food pelets every day,....hope this helps

you can give as much as your oscar can consume in two
minutes. but i suggest give them in rotation randomly
so that your oscar will take anything. there are times
that oscar will take only what they used to get. and won't
eat any other food.

raising feeders for the oscar... i won't spend time for that.
i will devote time in reaising another kind of fish than feeders.
there are a lot of good foods in the lfs, formulated and tested
for a healthy oscars.

molly fry is a good sorce of veriety for young oscars, they do their job of population controll well! they are also much healthier than store bought feeder fish, many times they are full of parasites and diseases, not to mention the fact that many pet stores dont feed them so they arent healthy and nutritious themselves. i have found that by about 1-1.5 months old you can tell the gender of mollies so you could feed all the males leaving only a few in the tank with the females so they can continue reproducing fry. like i said, population controll.

yeah, i know.... but with my oscar, i doubt i can
propagate them. my oscar can consume 200 grams of
fresh frozen spleen or heart in one feedings. i can
not imagine how many feeders should i keep without
running out of stock. when i give them treat, 100 pcs
guppy will last for less than 3 hours only.

personally im not a huge fan of giving oscars feeders. the main reason is not because of disease but i dont want my oscar looking at other fish as food. i beleive that if your oscar dont eat feeders they are less likely to try to eat any new small adddition you might put into your tank at a later date.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

that is also my mind setting before. but when i saw
them grabbing the moth and crickets that dropped-in,
i come to believe it is an instinct among oscar to grab
anything small that move above the water
