Today is the day and I have been counting down the sleeps for the last week.
We went and picked up our stock today. Four brand new baby Oscars. All 2" in size and each very different from the other.
I'm amazed at just how different each of there personalities are even at his young age. They are so unique. Please let me share my excitement!
They all have names - Unisex of course since we can't tell so we consider the 2 black fish as males and the two albinos as females.
Sam: He's the drab extrovert of the tank. Mostly Blact with a iridecent Red head and very plain grey body. Could have a touch of longfin in him as his fins are quite long and flowing. Loves to haunt the far end of the tank and swim against and then flow with the current down the long side away from the risers.
Boa: He's a tiger and the pretty boy of the tank. Jet black with very clean irridecent red pattern. No gray and swims very confidently. He must always be with another fish and is never alone like the others can be. He prefers the still water and the deeper parts of the tank provided another Oscar is with him.
Alby: is the Red Albino. May also have a bit of longfin in her genes and is the most active O in the tank. Also noticed she has a thing for swimming backwards. She likes to stay close to the other Albino and both enjoy swimming in the bubbles of either the uprights from the UGF or the finer bubbles rising from the outlet of the internal 1200. She has the reddest eyes I have ever seen in an Oscar and will follow your finger along the side of the tank.
Jo: A pure white Albino longfin. She only has 1 marking which is a faint 'O' at the base of her tail. Quite shy but was the first to stop sulking when she was introduced to the tank. As I mentioned above she loves to float with the current through the bubbles and has just discovered a nice little nook under a ledge out of the current I think she is going to call her own.
As you can probably tell I'm fairly stoked and haven't strayed far from the tank since they arrived home about 2 1/2 hours ago. They are all healthy and very social. I will of course endeavour to post some photos in the near future but I'm taking my son camping this evening till Sunday so if there not posted tonight I gave up trying and will have another go then.
