nice posting and very informative too.

basically, it is almost the same in the discussion and
inter-action in this site. the advantage of getting ideas
from members, we have different degree of damage; different
situation to react with; different approached to handle the
problem; and different actual results.

for me, those are better than theories although i haven't had
any experience yet with HITH.

Thanks, I found it a very interesting read. Years ago when I first kept Oscar's, I had a case of HITH with my water parameters at Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 20ppm and a temp of 78 degree's. I was told at the time about the carbon theory so I stopped using carbon altogether, and touch wood I have not had a case of HITH since. Whether this is just coincidence or not, I don't know.
