I bought these Oscars about 3 weeks ago and they do everything together and they were like that b4 i bought them at the store i bought them from(i kept looking at them for like 1 monuth and then i decided why not by the pair of them lol)

How can you tell if there actaully a breeding pair( or there just tolerating one another) because they do fight sometimes but never to aggressivley.When they do they lock lips ish and rub eachothers tail agaisnt one another. I have not noticed them breeding yet though so any ideas would help :>

The true and simple aanswer is that you really won't know for absolutely sure until one lays eggs and the other then fertilizes those eggs.

Two females have been known to act like mates in which case the eggs will go unfertilized. Unfertilized eggs will remain white while fertilized egs will become tan or beige in color.

Oscars will not reach maturity sexually untill approximately one year of age or roughly 7-8 inches in length.

How big are yours?? I have a "supposed pair" too but are too young to breed. Only time will tell for sure...

one is 12"(GUSS) and another is 9"(ANDY)

How big is your tank and are you keeping the water in good condition?

You haven't had them very long, if they are male and female, they appear to be at breeding age. However, they might want to settle in before laying any eggs.

I talked to yesterday about them, its only a 55 gallon sadily ;( but its the best i can do but i have twin aqua clear 50's going pumping 100 us gallons + a water pump. yeah i know they need more room though but they appear to be happy.

Have you got yourself some water test kits? I would suggest that for the first month, you test the water. You will know then how quickly nitrate levels build up. You also need to make sure that no ammonia or nitrite starts collecting in the tank water.

I would only feed those fish once-a-day. Every other day, feed them extremely sparingly. You could even skip a day, they don't need to eat every day. Because you've got too fairly large fish in a small tank, you are going to be take extra precautions to stop the water from degrading too quickly.
