woke up this morning to a distrubing sight. out of the two oscars that i have had for about 3months one albino one tiger. the tiger must have leaped out of the tank in the middle of the night. he was completely dead. after a few tears and some meaningful prayer i laid him to rest. the problem is the other one. it's behavior has become completely disturbing. it is thrashing all over the tank now. it just got to the point tonight that it will eat a little something. but most of the day it's just been laying at the bottom sulking. is this something that will pass? or do I need to invest in another tankmate? i can't stand to see it act this way.

sorry to hear that. don't you have a lid on your tank? if he carries on sulking, then you could try introducing another Oscar.

sorry for the loss.
sometimes, oscar flight can be attributed to the following:
1) looking for foods;
2) itching body
3) escaping bad water condition

i suggest to check your water parameter. it may have the reason
why it jump.

tank conditions and water are in perfect condition. I do a cleaning and water change like clock work and that was done on sunday. after the tank has the chance to cycle again i then check the parameters. the gap on each side of the hoods is only about 3 inches. to add some laughter i think the albino was betting the tiger "i bet you can't jump out of tank" and it won in some ways. it just now can't enjoy it. thanks for all fo the condolences.

you have posted twice.....
gap on top of the tank sometimes make your oscar think it is
another water area. same with arowana and piranha.
perhaps, there was flying insect on top of your tank. oscar tries to
grab it, only to find out no more water beyond that point....
screen cover will get you protected on that.
