Well after reading more about eating habits of Oscars on the website. I decided to go out back and look for some tasty things for my guys to eat. I found 1 beetle, and a bunch of worms.

I threw the beetle in first, and Voldemort gobbled him up. It was really amazing to see. And Then I dropped a worm in, and Octavian had at it. It took him a few minutes to eat the worm all the way, and it was sticking out his mouth for a few minutes because it was a little bit long, but he ate it all gone. And finally I dropped one more smaller worm in, and it just sat there for a while, I guess they were both full from there little treats, but then Octavian came back for some more a little while later! Took him, and then Voldemort decided he wanted some so they fought a little over it, and ended up going halvsies on it. ha. It was really cool to see. And they seemed to really enjoy the live food a lot.

I think I'll give them this little treat once a week so they don't get spoiled, but so they can have more variety in their diet.

Anyways, it was super cool to watch, and it got me curious to what things you have fed your oscars, insect wise.

i do give my oscars a lot of moving creatures, crickets,
caterpillars, earthworms, beetles, and small mouse but on
a treat basis only. i am on high protein diet, thus, it help
them to improved their health. sometimes, i tossed cucumber,
lettuce, and of course, the roots of my plants. the love ripping
off all new roots sprouting in my tank.

That's cool. I can't wait until they get bigger so I can find them bigger things to eat from the yard. ha.

You actually fed your Oscar a small mouse?! that's crazy!

the mouse is from my house. i use to put trap
to catch them... then one time, i thought throwing
them in.... my oscars just grabbed them in a second.
from thereon, i just tossed in whenever i catch one.
take a look at the picture below showing the tail of
the mouse in the mouth of the oscar.

wow! that is really impressive. I'm gonna gave to give that a try when mine get real big.

does that dirty the tank much? like with the blood and such?

no... it did not splattered any blood or any dirt.
the 1.5 inches mouse was gone in just one snap.
the water looks like blurred because i was facing
the sunlight when i took up the shot.

the one that makes my water messy was the big caterpillar.
when the 2 oscar ripped them off, the juice of leaves inside
the worms splattered in the water. (see below)
