Hi every one.. well first off i am a newby to this site..
i love oscars!!
i have 3 oscars
one is named oscar ( lol ) and he/she is about 5 months old
other is named olly and he/she is about 3 months old
and there the albino named ozmo and he/she is about 3 months old also..
ok problem i am having...
olly has not grown at all in the whole 3 months we have had him/her we feed them a very healthy diet of blood worms, peas, shrimp pellets, and some times feed a fish ( but not often as they r not good for the oscars!)
oscar is the biggest he has taken off like a rocket grown heaps ozmo is a little smaller.. but for some reason olly just wont grow!! is there such a thing as a dwarf oscar ??? lol
any help would be amazing!!

also is it true that most albino oscars go blind?? if so how can i feed him with out the others getting the food.. oscar the fish is one very big pig and when its feeding time he attacts the other oscars and then eats and the others get whats left over!! he is a very dominant fish and has made it clear to the others thats its his?her tank!! also when oscar is not being fed he will swin in the corner waiting for more food and as the computer is close to the tank he watches me and whne i look and pay him/ her attention he swims madly up and down just waiting for more food!! he will stay in the one spot watching me all day!!

so if any one can help me it would be awsome
thanks guys
bec

p.s i will try and get pics up later

welcome to the site

Assuming that your water conditions are good and one Oscar is growing normally but the other one isn't, it could very well be a genetic problem. To give you a conclusive answer is rather difficult. Is the smaller Oscar getting enough food? it might be a good idea to test your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. Poor water conditions can stunt a fishes growth. However, since one of your fish seems okay, it does rather point to a health problem. But like I say, I'm only surmising what could be wrong.

Give it a little longer, maybe it will start growing at some stage

As for albino Oscars going blind, I have never kept one so I couldn't really tell you. I have heard of people having blind Oscars. I do know that albino Oscars are often picked on. This is probably because they have a generic defect and will be a target from other fish occasionally. Quite often when newly hatched albino Oscars are mixed with other types of Oscar, the owner Oscars attacked their eyes for some strange reason.

Hi.. thanks..

we do weekely tests of the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH levels and theya re all correct & also change about 30% of the water..
olly ( the small one ) gets food he is fussy though will only eat the shrimp pellets wont eat any other food we give them ie.. crickets.. peas.. bloodworms... he will eat feed a fish sometimes but not all the time..!!might be becasue of his age!! just the poor little fella has not grown at all and since the other oscars have he is the main target to be picked on.. oscar is the main offender since he is the biggest fish!!
and the albino is picked on by oscar but not as much as olly!!

could it have been bad breeding witch could have caused olly to develop a health problem and not grow?

thanks for your help

It sounds as if you are keeping your tank clean and carrying out water changes so it's probably down to some kind of generic problem. However, I really don't know why this is happening.

Like I said before, he may suddenly start growing at some stage

oscars like people dont all grow to the same size or at the same rate. just because one oscar is smaller than the rest doesnt mean there is something wrong with him. as long as he is eating and behaving like a normal oscar he might grow in time or maybe not. but if hes happy and healthy imho you shouldnt worry to much about it.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

OFL and necro got you covered.
i will just add, there are some cases that slow growing oscar
will have growth spurt and eventually outgrow others. as necro
had said, as long as it is happy and eats normallly, you dont
need to worry.

as to food competition, just give them enough and remove any
excess after five minutes to lessen bio-loads. every body will
be happy.
