hi can anyone be of help please my black and gold tiger has been looking pale all day just the black on him he stays realy pale looking for about 10 mins and then returns to his origional colour any one come across this ?

have you checked your water?
whats your readings?
when you say pale, do you mean the black goes a slight greyish?
they all do that.

water is fine and yes he is going grey i never noticed it before do they do this all the time for no reason ? my concern is that i added a plec 2 days ago and thought it might be linked

Fish do change colour on occasions. I think you have to worry if they lose all their colour and stay like that. Is your fish still eating okay? When they stopped eating, that can be a cause for concern. Also check its breathing, is it laboured at all?

Over the years, I've learned to look for tell-tale signs of things that may be wrong. When you say it is swimming around with its mouth open, does that mean it cannot close its mouth?

is it gasping? or just swimming with his mouth constantly open, do you have a air pump in your tank?
make sure they always have enough air.

no he is not gasping just swimming with his mouth widr open i dont have an air pump my external filter has a spraybar out of the water creating bubbles and i have a fluval 4 with the bubbles on is that not enough? or should i get an air pumpas well i would like to avoid that as my o rags every thing in the tank !

as long as you have good rippling effect on the surface of your tank you will be fine for oxygenation. i have airators in all my tanks but i use them more for asthetic purposes than for oxygenation
|

That doesn't sound right, they shouldn't be swimming around with their mouths open all the time. Are you quite sure there is something stuck in the fish's throat

i can see why he has got his mouth open he has got a hair in his mouth i think he has swollowed it but its not all gone down my daughter fed them this afternoon and she has got long hair ! im gonna feed him to see wot happens
