How old are your oscars now?
what size are they?
the best bet is a piece of flat slate, pity you dont live closer to me, i got loads of the stuff.
good luck though, keep us updated

a flat piece of slate is the stone of choice for egg laying however and flat surface will do. even with a slate in my tank a few times my oscars have dug to bottom of the tank and laid their eggs there. my jags have totally ignored the slate and always lay their eggs on the bottom of the tank. as asked by glen what size are your oscars? oscar usually reach sexual maturity somewhere between 12 and 18 months of age and translated to size somewhere between 8-10 inches.

if you do have a pair it might take a while before you see any egg laying. oscar tend to begin the mating ritual at an early age so you should be patient. you'll know you have a pair when you see fertilized eggs in your tank.

gasping for air is not a good sign. i would suggest getting a water reading to ensure all is okay in your tank. also make sure you have adequate water movement on the surface to ensure proper airation.

hoping for the best for you fingers crossed.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

Have NO idea how old they are. But the are about 18-20 cm long.. I bought them when they where about 15-16 cm big. First Oscar, then Scarlet.

They have been digging since saturday, actually, and have cleaned a nice spot at the bottom of the tank.

If you haven't got a flat rock or anything similar, they will clear the substrate away and lay their eggs.

I'm a little dubious to whether your Oscars are old enough to breed. Do you know how all they are?

wonderful feeling, isn't it? you are very much
excited and couldn't wait till you oscars lay
their first eggs.

since you are not sure how old your oscars are, and
unless the rituals turn out to be hurting each other,
you are probably lucky enough to have a pair. necro is
right in saying 12 to 18 months old or size of 8 to 10
inches long, but if your oscars had been stunt their growth
before you have them, then nobody could tell if they are matured
already and ready to spawn. keep cross your finger.....
