if you feed them on the first day/the day you leave them and put a lump of cucumber in the bottom of the tank and a handfull of spinnach leaves on the top ....and feed them the day you get back they will be fine ....but obviously an auto feeder is a better job!!!!!!!!! but you do need an air pump to run one !!!!!!!!!!!

oscar will survive in 5 days without foods.
just feed them before leaving and they will
be fine. overfeeding is not advisable too before
leaving because you are not around when troubles
come.

I agree with Paul, five days is nothing for fish, they won't starve at all. Give them a couple of good meals a day before you go away, and maybe the morning. Make sure you have done a water change as well.

In the dry season down in the Amazon, fish can go for weeks or even months without food because they get trapped in small pockets of water.

You feed some food. I read my book that oscars can stay w/ out food for a week or so so 5 days will be ok.

They can go without food for much longer than a week. If you've ever had an Oscar that has stopped eating, you'll know that they can sometimes not eat for several weeks.

Apparently, fish don't need calories, that is one of the reasons why they can go without food for so along

How old and big are your oscars?
do they have any tankmates?
2 Tiger Oscars, 1 Lutino Oscar, 1 Jack Dempsey, 3 Clown Loaches, 1 Blue Phantom Pleco.

& olly who is 3 months and about 3 inch ( the runt lol very slow grower )
no tank mates as oscar eat's them ( & eat's any fish dose not matter what it is they ate my Cichlid's so i gave up ) so just the 3 oscars..

that is what oscar are known for.... they will grab
anything that will fit to their mouth. but there are
time oscar do fine with other tankmates. mine had an
angel fish 1/4 of their size but never been bullied
so far for 23 months now.
