Obviously from all the research I've done feeder fish from the pet store are a very bad idea. Soo, if you were to raise your own feeder fish what sort of set up and breeds would be the best bet as far as nutrition and practicality?

To be honest with you, feeder fish is a NO NO.
there is no gain in it, there is no nutrition either,
your better sticking to pellets and other stuff like meal worms, shrimp and them sort of things as treats.
but i'd stay away from feeder fish.

In my opinion, breeding your own feeders is a waste of time and money. Nowadays, there is plenty of good-quality food available at the fish store that will benefit your Oscar much better than a few small fish.

i have to agree with the masses on this one. to start with you need a large enough tank to house your feeders in, let them grow to a large enough size to feed to your oscars and feed them fish food. why not avoid the hassle and just feed your oscars other types of live food like earthworms, crickets, mealworms ect...

imho it just isnt worth the cost and energy to raise your own feeders when there is so many inexpensive things to give your oscars.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

i concur with the rest.
instead of raising feeders, i prefer to have
another tank for an oscar.

Ok, thank you all for the response. Maybe I'll just save 55g for a community tank (I custom painted the back glass, so I kind of want to keep it) or maybe I'll see if a student wants to take it home. Thanks!
