If I just monitor the Nitrite with my liquid test kit, would that be enough to let me know how the water conditions are? The level is staying below 0ppm, so hopefully this is a good sign that the water is fine and that the HITH will heal safely?
0 nitrite is a good indication. are you using liquid test kit or strip? with regular water change, HITH will be healed in not time.
I have been using aquarium salts with each weekly water change.
can you give details of dosage of salt every time you apply it. after initial dosage for the entire tank, succeeding dosage should be based on the volume that was replace only, not for the whole tank capacity to avoid over concentration of salt.
Also I been feeding him carrots, which he loves. Is this also a good veggie to help with healing?
yes, but still i suggest you give hem/her varied foods that could give complete nutrients.
