If I just monitor the Nitrite with my liquid test kit, would that be enough to let me know how the water conditions are? The level is staying below 0ppm, so hopefully this is a good sign that the water is fine and that the HITH will heal safely? I have been using aquarium salts with each weekly water change.
Let me know if steps im doing are fine and if I need to test for anything else.
Thanks guys for your help

Also I been feeding him carrots, which he loves. Is this also a good veggie to help with healing?

0 nitrite is a good indication. are you using liquid test kit or strip? with regular water change, HITH will be healed in not time.

I have been using aquarium salts with each weekly water change.

can you give details of dosage of salt every time you apply it. after initial dosage for the entire tank, succeeding dosage should be based on the volume that was replace only, not for the whole tank capacity to avoid over concentration of salt.

yes, but still i suggest you give hem/her varied foods that could give complete nutrients.

I put a teaspoon of salt for each 5 gallons removed, I feed my Oscar Carrots and Cichlid Gold. So hopefully the combination of that with water changes and keeping the Nitrite @ 0 will do the trick. Im sure it will take some time for a complete heal. I am also using Pimafix each day to help in the healing process.
Please let me know anything else you that would aid in bringing Stanger back to 100%
Thanks guys:laugh:

i haven't tried that much salt in my tank. i do add salt but
intended to enhance oxygenation at 1 tablespoon /25 gallon of
water. but keeping the water at good condition will surely do
the trick of healing.

assuming your tank is properly cycled your nitrites will never rise above zero. what you should test for is your nitrates. this will rise over time. keep testing your water and when it your nitrate reading hits 20 ppm so a water change. this will keep your tank water in good condition and will aid in the healing of your fish.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!
