I've always fed my Oscar a mix of hikari gold pellets and live feeders I raise myself, but for the last 2 weeks he hasnt been eating his pellets. they just float around in his tank for hours and then i eventually pull them out. He still eats his feeders very aggresively so he still has an appetite and is eating good but only feeders. I don't want to only feed him live food because we all know thats bad for him, so how could i get him to start eating his pellets again?

Stop the feeder fish. When he gets hungry enough he will eat the pellets . It will not hurt him to not eat a few days if he wants to be stubborn .

thats what i was thinking, so just stopping feeding him until he eats the pellets? how about if he goes a long time without eating them, won't he die?

Stop feeding the feeders and starve him, give him his pellets like normal and if he doesn't eat after 5 min net them out eventually he will eat them again. Once he's back on them ONLY give him pellets for a month then start bringing treats back. I give treats once maybe twice a week after the pellets, I will give him half the normal amount of pellets then the treat.

There are a lot of better stuff out there than feeders, earth worms, crickets, meal worms, blood worms, market shrimp, if you want to feed live a better alternative would be ghost shrimp

He will eat, if he goes a week without eating check back in and there are some other methods that can be tried to get him to eat the pellets

hi there

1. what is the size of your oscar?
2. how long ago since you have it?
3. btw, my 2-year old 9" redboy is off hikari gold pellets as it is sulking itself out.
4. honest, i just ignore it as long as it is healthy, no physical injury or wound.
5. no clamped fins or grasping for air.
6. no hith etc.
7. it has not been feeding for some 2 weeks back.
8. however, i really find it strange.
9. it is now "protecting" one portion of the tank bottom.
10. literally cleaning it with its mouth pretty vigorously.
11. some kind of territory or what.
12. any of the other 4 adult oscars come near.
13. shall receive some lip locking & head butting from my "red boy".
