Impossible to give a conclusive answer to why your Oscar is growing as quickly. However it isn't uncommon for this to happen. As long as your water is in good condition and the Oscar is eating okay, I shouldn't worry about it for the moment.

Many people complain that one Oscar is getting more food than the other. The easiest way around this is to feed them on food like frozen krill or shrimp that disperses in the water after it has been defrosted. You can also put six or seven pallets and that once and they will spread across the surface of the water so the fish should get their fair share.

Occasionally you will get one Oscar that seems perfectly healthy at feeding time is very reluctant to come to the food. One of my Oscars does this when I'm feeling pellets on the surface. Maybe he just doesn't like them. When I put the krill in, he seems to eat those as well as bloodworm, silly fish.

in most cases, the lutino grows slower than the normal
tiger or red oscar. perhaps genes or mutation have some
factor. but if both type have the same drive for foods
and compete with one another for their shares, they will
grow at the same rate; 1 inch per month during juvinile,
and slow down as they matured.
