TOPIC: UNUSAL BEHAVIOR - IM CONCERNED

UNUSAL BEHAVIOR - IM CONCERNED 3 years, 2 months ago #24879

hey as some of you know, i'm new to oscars..... i have a albino tiger and a normal tiger....

up until this evening they have been really sweet for each other and actually seem almost fond of each other....

but the last hour or so, iv noticed some unusual behavior, they "nip" not viscously and the albino shakes its fins at it, again, not immediate aggression has happened, but it looks aggressive though the normal oscars sort of mouths the albino, but doesn't actually bite if that makes sense??

why is this???

and on a good note, iv taught them a trick! they go mad when i wave the bag of food at the tank! its really nice as they recognize when there being fed! very pleased with myself

You're the second person to ask a type of question this evening. I'll tell you what I told the other person, based Oscars act out the strange behaviour. I've noticed that not only Oscars do this, but other cichlids as well, especially Severums.

You haven't told us how big they are, but they could be approaching sexual maturity. It could also be Oscars trying to compete for dominance as you often get this with Oscars. I can't give you a conclusive reason why your Oscars are doing this, all I can say is you have got nothing to worry about because most of us will tell you that Oscars do this from time to time.
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

i believe what you had seen was lip locking as if they were fighting. am i right? as OFL had said, they usually do that when they reach maturity, perhaps to show who is the boss or one way of courting. just watch them closely, when they are hurting each other, its time for you to decide the next move, either allow them to settle the issue by themselves or you separate them.

nah its not lip locking, i have seen that before....the normal one mouths the side of the albino...

and there about 4/5 inches, so far from adulthood

okey, that is what we called bullying. and the more you have to watch them.
that manner sometimes resulted to injury of the one being bullied.
