My sons oscar is about 2 years old. We used to feed him the pellets but got larvae in the take that hatched into his room. The pet store said this sometimes happens with pellets. So we went to the frozen cubes of brine shrimp and bloodworms. That gets very costly and it doesn't seem like its enough to fill him. We occasionaly give him goldfish but have been afraid to dig up worms just incase they were in fertilizer or something.

My son fed him flounder fillet last week. I know that they say Oscars will eat anything and he truly seems to eat anything. Can you feed them raw fish fillets such as flounder, tilapia or some other fish?

My son is 14 and LOVES "Squirt" his last oscar was 8 years old. So we want to do the right thing for him.

Thank you very much for your advice!

Welcome to the site

Sure, Oscars will gladly take seafood. Seafood is very good for humans, so it certainly won't do your Oscars any harm.I sometimes give mine cockles and mussels from the fish store, of course minus the salt and vinegar.

I would stay clear of goldfish if I was you, you never know what sort of diseases they are carrying.

in addition to this, i used to tossed squid
tentacles in my O's tank whenever i got one... they love it. anything food that you like could be thrown in, just make sure the are no other additives yet in the items especially the vinegar that could damage the intestine.

I think you need some better pellets, or need to close the box/bag.

Otherwise here's a great chart that demonstrates an oscars natural diet: fishbase.com/TrophicEco/FoodItemsList.ph...mp;species=ocellatus
