hello all. new to the sight. long time lurker. first time poster.
anyways, i have a 75 gallon tank with 2 oscars and a convict. the water parameters are perfect.
perfect is not a basis on evaluating water parameters. it should shows value for ammonia? nitrite? nitrate? pH? temp? any changes in normal behavior of an oscar or any fish should not be taken lightly.
i woke up this morning and my oscars were acting fine and normal. i went to the store to get me more filters for my filter as its almost time to change them. while i was there i bought 2 fake plants to put in my tank. i came home and opened them up and cleaned them off real good and put them in the tank.
any changes in the tank could affect the occupants as if they are in the new territory.
when i was doing this i noticed my 2 oscars sitting on the bottem of the tank. they dont look like they are breathing hard at all and look really healthy. they are acting weird layin down there too. like wrapping their fins around each other and laying on top of each other. i never seen this type of behavior before. they are about 6 months old. i fed them and they came up to eat a lil bit and went right back down to the bottem of the tank. my convict is swimming around like a madman like usual.
any ideas as to whats going on?
6 months old is way to young to mate if that is what you want to imply but they are about to reach maturity. laying in the bottom has two things: due to the changes introduce in the tank; or they are conserving energy due to potential health problem. whatever it is, you have to check water parameters.
