Hi guys i bought a Cichlid book today and i see there are to Names of oscars. i know when i ordered my first one he was supposably wild cought and the Scientific Name for Him is Astronotus Crassipinnis and i looked pictures up on this name and the oscars look just like my original oscar not very bright colored. But then theres a Astronotus Ocellatus and this looks like new oscar i have. What are the differences between the two, just color? because im wondering if the two can breed and produce Fry.
my original oscar is to the left the two are stuck at the hip i swear lol

the 2 oscars in the pics provided are both astonotus ocellatus. the one on the left is a lutino(kinda hard to tell in that pic) and the right is a tiger.
an Astronotus Crassipinnis is a different species of fish. though closely related to the oscars they are found in venezuala and do not grow as big as the ocellatus. they do not have the red colour of an oscar nor do the have the eye spot that the oscar is fish is known for.
the Crassipinnis is not as common in the aquarium trade and is usually only available through special orders from reputable dealers.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all
