I just rescued a number of fish one being a 4 yr old albino oscar about 6". He is quite rough looking as one gill has a hole in it and the other gill plate is an open sore. His affected side has caused his/her lip to curl up like he had a cigar in his mouth. I have had 2 stores tell me differant things it could be. One is hole in the head and the other said it was gill mites. Does anyone know how I can figure out what it is and how to treat it. I have not seen him eat for 2 days now but he does enjoy swimming around like nothing is wrong. Please help me as I would like to bring him back to health before it is to severe.
Thanks Dennis

Post a good clear pic would be your best bet, we could have a look and give advice on what we see.

Look under "emergency help" there is a post called fish disease pics it has a very good pic of HITH.

i concur with marcus.... a picture will be great tools for
evaluation. 4 years old at 6" is stunt. he had suffered too
much, perhaps small tanks.... and yes, poor water condition.
