I have 2 new oscars in their own tank for about 3 months now. They have been eating pellets 3 times a day and were acting normal. I noticed that my oscars have been spitting out or throwing up their food every time I feed them again and grab the new food and do the same process the next time i feed them. can you tell me why and how to solve the issue.

i dont think there is a soloution to this my oscars also do this and have always done it.....they are very messy eaters and i beleive that the behaviour is normal..every pellet they crush and spit out ,part of it is ingested but not all of it so they repeat the procedure taking in part of each pellet each time untill they have eaten enough!!!! i have used this in my favour as i have 2 synodontis cats on the bottom and some smaler fish who wont take food from the top of the water or eat the large size pellets i feed my oscars so the rubbish the O,s spit out sinks down for the cats and smaler fish who now wait for the O,s to spit !!!!! this saves me using different food for each species....its actualy a great benefit for me......just my opinion tho

Hi my Oscar does that also, but b/c I don't have a bottom feeder i just sit by the tank for 5 min and drop 1 pellet in at a time. and he grabs it and I think this way he eats slower, and when he's had enough he stops. we do this am and pm. and if I'm in the room he gets my attention and I know what he wants..it's our Game..

That's when Silver Dollars come handy. I don't have to worry about sunken uneaten pellets anymore with those guys in there.

Sometimes, when Oscars spit out the food without taking a bite for a few days might indicate that spawning is near. How old/big are your Oscars?

my tiger oscars do this but too although my albino does'nt pretty strange at first but i agree with BGH its just oscars being messy as usual lol...after they spit them out is when my pictus catfish comes into its own! lol
