The petstore I got my oscar from said that they sell feeders. goldfish, rosies, and guppies. I know that the goldfish and rosies are supposed to be bad for the oscar. I was wondering about the guppies. They arent the fancy ones. I was debating even getting a few and just raising them myself in a small tank. What do you all think about it. Also if this is the wrong place to post this, please let me know. Thanks.

the problem with raising your own feeders is the time and trouble it takes.
i cant understand the infatuation with feeding your oscar live fish when there is so much nutritional readily available foods out there for them to eat.
but if your mind is set on feeders then i would recommend going with convict fry. they have a half decent growth rate and reproduce every 3 weeks or so. this will give you enough decent sized feeders for your oscars and a constant supply as well.

btw dont forget you will also need a growout tank as well as one for the breeding pair you get.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

Its not that I have my mind set on feeding him feeders. I am just wanting to make sure that he gets a large variety. I was consdering getting some crickets, meal worms, and possible feeders for live foods. Them some fruit. And also his pellets. I was wondering if tropical fish flakes are ok. I have some but i dont have anything to feed it too. Also they dont seem to want the pellets. Maybe cuz its med size.

i feed mealworms my friend ...they are ok but as worms they contain a lot of fats and cloud the water ...so i keep them in a tub with sawdust for about 2 weeks untill they hatch into beautiful black beatles ...then feed them they rather these to the worms and dont cloud your water they will keep for 4-5 weeks this way...

well keeping them inside the lid of the tank for me means letting them float in the water. But I suppose I can let them in the stand. Now they arent going to be trying to get away when I open them for feedings are they? Like flying out. I dont know this beetle you are talking about.
