raw jumbo scallops but cut into little bits
is this alright or are scallops as bad as the raw shrimp controversy

Scallops should be fine. Edited, not fine due to thiaminase.

Nothing wrong with raw shrimp, unless it is tiger prawn/shrimp.

An Oscar will have to fight me over who got the prawn or the scallop, I love both, I'm afraid the Oscar would have to make do with fish food :-)

It contains thiaminase which prevents a fish from processing Vitamin B.

Yeah I take it back about feeding scallops. I checked the list and this also contains thiaminase like tiger shrimp.

Scallops should not be fed.

Interesting information rock, thanks for posting it, we will have to mention on the website I think. However, I don't think there are many people who are going to be feeding their Oscars on tiger prawns and scallops :-)

Thanks for that. And also another good reason not to feed feeder goldfish (as well as some other species of live feeders) as they also contain thiaminase according to the article.

not on sea life only, gold fish also have it....

i agree with Penn on this, my fish has to be confined with fish food, scallops and prawns are for me LOL!
