The article states that a little over 50% of freshwater and a little over 50% of marine fish tested contain thiaminase.

Ok. maybe I should change the question a bit. Why do aquatic animals have thiaminase?

No one knows why some fish and insects have it. In plants, it may offer protection against insects.

Thiaminase can be removed through heating. But if you cook the scallop and tiger shrimp, chances are 100% that you will eat it. :lol:
