sometime, large water change affect the mood of the fish... perhaps, they were just shock of
the sudden change,... they should settle in a while... how are they now?

we can only determine the cause of heavy breathing by doing water test 2 hours after water change...
gasping for air after water change is normal... same with after the feeding.. but after 2 hours, the water should have stabilized and balance...

Hi, I have now had my 2 oscars for 6 months. They are in a tank 6x2x2 feet and have 4 silver dollars and 2 serums to keep them company.

Recently the oscars appear to be gasping for breath. I did a water change after noticing this and have the ph at 7, the nitrates and ammonia are at 0. This has now been happening for 6 days.

Is there a cause/cure for this or is this just normal?

Hello and welcome. What are you using to test the water? You should have 0 ammonia, and nitrite, but not 0 nitrate. What has been your usual water change routine to this point? What size and brand of filtration do you have? Gasping is not normal, generally indicates lack of oxygen or dangerous amounts of toxins.

I may not be the Boss, but I'm ALWAYS right!
