I noticed the other day my Oscar developed a strange black mark that run almost around his head, kind of like camoflauge. Is this normal and maybe I just haven't noticed it before?

Also on the second pic here I wanted to get some advice on what these white splotches are. Are they wounds or something else? I have him in with a Dempsey and they occasionally like to argue.

Pic 2: i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb39/shanesoft/DSC_00030001.jpg

Thanks!

To be quite honest, I can't really see anything on the first photo that I can't imagine there's anything drastically wrong.

The second photo just looks like a superficial abrasion which should clear up quickly. Just keep the water in good condition

How big is the tank? The first pick isn't so bad, but as OFL said, the second one is a slight injury. But nothing serious, so no worries.

It's a 75 gallon, running a Marineland C-360 canister (aka Tetratec EX 1200).

Thanks for the quick replies!

I wouldnt worry about either pic unless it gets worse. The 1st looks nothing to me. The second looks like abrasions of some sort. should heal up soon

On the subject of jack dempseys, i dont think they are as aggressive as they are made out to be. They were named after a boxer who was very aggresive. I have heard quite a few people who think tank breeding has bred a lot of the aggression out of dempseys. This backs up my personal experience of my docile 7in dempsey

I'm with you delboybully about the JD's. I have a mated pair, both around 9in. They get kinda rough with each other. But rarely bother any of their tank mates.
Keeping fish is only as hard as you choose to make it.
