Hi, i think i've just posted this message in the wrong forum so i will do again anyway. I'm new to the forum and to owning oscars. They are great fish but i'm a little concerned for my two. They are still young and housed with a five year old common plec, a young blue channel cat who is 12" and will be moved to a pond when he gets a bit bigger, an albino shark who is a year old and a sucking loach who is 2 years old. Our water levels are tested and fine. My larger oscar showed white abrasions on one side about 2 weeks ago, they don't seem to have got any bigger but the smaller oscar has them on one side now and one on the head. I've read the article on hith and I don't think it is that. My husband wants to medicate the tank anyway as he is concerned that it is a parasite of some sort. They are swimming fine and eating well. Should we treat the tank or use salt? The abrasions are noticed in the morning and the blue channel cat comes out at night, he is a big, quck and destructive fish and I wonder if they have injured themselves trying to get out of his way? None of the other fish have any problems though. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks. Love this site.

Welcome to the site. A photograph would be helpful. However it does rather sound like some kind of fungal infection which would make sense as some fungal infections are very infectious and can easily spread to other fish. If it is indeed a fungal infection, a fungal medication could possibly help clear it up. If you've got charcoal in your filter, make sure you take it out before medicating the tank. But, without seeing a photo, I'm just guessing really

A picture would help loads. However if it isnt HITH and it is bacterial then Myxazin is the the stuff to cure it. If the abrasions are caused by another fish(ie the cat) then it would be best to rehome either the cat or the oscars
