over the weekend I decided to change my tank from gravel to sand. I got white play sand from my local hardware store. anyway to get straight to the point, after setting up the tank I added the oscars back with some of the original tank water.
did a water test after 1 hour, all params were reading fine except the PH.I got a reading of 7.5. this morning did another one and it was 6.0 and now again back to 7.5.
what should I do? here's a video of the tank. also I must add the oscars seem to have lost colour, compare it with the pic in my profile.
hi buddy im not sure if this will help i changed from gravel to sand and also used play sand did you thoughrly wash the sand i meen about 6 times until the scum off the top has gone !! it took me ages before the water in the bucket ran clear my ph did not rise so i can confidently say play pit sand is ok to use also oscars change colour all the time (go a pale colour)this i have found out from this site to be normal maybe you hadent noticed before? hope in some way this helps if you are using the existing canister filter id do a 50% water change thats just my opinion have you tested your tap water??

sand will have effect on your water depending on the source.
if the sand was from the seashores, it will have tremendous
effect until neutralized. but if it is from the fresh water
riverbed, it won't change that much.
